FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I need a third party opinion?
Would you sign legal documents without a lawyer's opinion? No. Then why would you sign your child's legal IEP? Most likely, your child's teacher works on one IEP team, supporting one population of students. With little extra time to stay current on all of the new research and best practices, he or she sees IEPs through a narrow lens. Teachers get stuck in routines, providing the same goals over and over. That's where Grade My IEP comes in. The educators at Grade My IEP have seen hundreds of IEPs; the good, the bad, and the ugly. They are constantly researching, innovating and keeping up to date on best practices.
What do teachers think of Grade My IEP?
Teachers love Grade My IEP because it offers constructive feedback from a collaborative perspective. Our reports embed relevant professional development into tasks teachers are already required to do, without taking them out of their classrooms to sit in lengthy trainings.
Who reviews the IEP documents at Grade My IEP?
All IEPs are reviewed by Special Education Teachers with relevant classroom experience, who have managed IEP teams and taught across multiple settings.
What is the difference between Grade My IEP and hiring an advocate?
Grade My IEP is designed as a cheaper alternative to hiring an advocate. Advocates can cost thousands of dollars. Since most advocates charge hourly (including travel time), money is wasted on drive time and discussing simple IEP tweaks that could be summed up in one IEP Review. Lastly, there are currently no certifications or requirements to become an advocate, so you never know the true quality of what you are getting. With Grade My IEP, you know that your IEP is being reviewed by a Special Educator with extensive classroom experience on multiple IEP teams, across multiple settings.
Should I hire an advocate too? What if my child's IEP is really that bad?
Grade My IEP is a great stepping stone to determine whether hiring an advocate is truly necessary. We would love for our IEP Review to remedy any obstacles you may be facing by offering positive, realistic suggestions to the IEP team. However, we know this is not always the case. If we feel that your child's IEP requires legal action, we will provide you with clear, next steps to follow in seeking legal advice.
